SCULPTING LA DOLCE VITA

“All work and no play”, as they say… so David is as enthusiastic about sculpting a gorgeous travel adventure with you and helping you taste the very finest Tuscany has to offer, as he is about working with you on art and sculpture. Pietrasanta lies between the mountains and the sea, very much catering to those who want to enjoy the ocean, but is also in easy striking distance from Lucca, Pisa and Florence.  Indeed, if you’re from abroad one of these will probably be your point of arrival in Italy. They offer some world beating hotels and restaurants, from the  renowned Tornabuoni, to the classic Enoteca Pinchiorri. Of course there are many wonderful places too for less exotic budgets.

Pietrasanta also has very many charms, from the 17th Century palazzo hotel Albergo Pietrasanta, to the gourmand charcuterie menu on offer at The Marcelleria restaurant in the main square. Meanwhile, you might not want a hotel experience at all, but a private villa instead, and new and interesting places to eat too are popping up all the time, like Jazz Sushi in town, with its strange fusion of eccentric Asian-Italian delights. Of course, anyone who knows about living and working in Italy will know that stopping work is as important as actually doing any, especially at lunchtimes, and engaging in the grand art of food, wine, good company and conversation. Indeed, these are one of the greatest guiltless pleasures of life in Italy and should be an inspiration to your joy in the art too.

So a rich menu of experiences can be arranged, from evening drinks in the square to people watch, to cultural excursions, visiting the quarry vaults in Carrara, shopping in Florence, and the finest dining, to more rustic, less expensive but sometimes more authentic restaurants for lunches and evening meals.  There are the many Bagni by the sea too, where you can hire tented sunbeds for the day, as you swim, sunbathe and eat and drink. It may be that one or more of your party prefers this, while other more dedicated artists tackle the work of sculpting in town, and we all convene for an evening meal or even a critique. Not that your host does not realise you will want time on your own too and David’s guidance can be as un-intrusive as you like, simply smoothing the wheels in the background and making sure your own choices connect, as you sculpt your way.
